Expansion Joints
Expansion Joints are designed to ensure smooth, continuous traffic between structures while accommodating movements caused by creep, shrinkage, temperature variation, and live loads. Suitable for concrete, composite, and steel structures, especially bridge decks, they allow vertical movement for bearing replacement without dismantling. Covering movements from 20 to 1200 mm, expansion joints provide durability, low noise, corrosion resistance, efficient drainage, and high performance under heavy traffic and harsh environmental conditions.
Bearings
Structural bearings are designed to transfer loads between the superstructure and substructure while allowing necessary movement and rotation. Seismic Protection
Isolation
- The structure is isolated from the movement of the ground using flexible connections, mainly reinforced rubber bearings or sliding systems, to increase the fundamental period of vibration of the structure to be protected and reduce the response to seismic acceleration. Acceleration can be divided by a factor of two or three on structure featuring such systems.
- Isolator efficiency is directly related to horizontal stiffness and leads to major displacement of the structure during a seismic event.
- The effects of structural isolation therefore result in a clean low frequency, low acceleration and high relative displacement.

Seismic Retrofitting
Seismic retrofitting increasingly relies on advanced technologies such as base isolators, energy dissipating dampers, and enhanced seismic joints to protect existing structures in earthquake prone areas. Base isolation systems work by decoupling the structure from ground motion, allowing the building or bridge to move more gently and reducing the seismic forces transmitted to its framework.
