Freyssinet International Manila Inc. (FIMI) has been awarded a strengthening project contract by Republic Cement Building & Materials due to new sets of loads induced and upgrading of the structure. Work scopes include strengthening study of the existing pre-heater tower and to establish retrofitting solutions for the fit-for-purpose on the modified existing loadings to the structure.
With the collaboration of FIMI & FIC/DT (France), structural assessment and analysis were performed to find best possible retrofitting solutions on the existing structure. The structure has been analyzed through series of site data verifications and coordination with RCBM representative.
Bulacan Plant Pre-Heater tower retrofitting works involve strengthening of structural steel and concrete members. Retrofitting works cover strengthening of some identified existing plate girders (PG) from 2nd floor to 7th floor including roof steel structures at the roof deck which will be retrofitted based on the structural assessment considering seismic analysis.
The retrofitting works use combination of Freyssinet’s solutions utilizing Freyssibars on the installation of lateral concrete blisters, installation of elastomeric bearing pads to some steel joints, use of TFC (carbon fiber) to some concrete beams subject for retrofitting and installation of additional stiffeners on specific locations in identified steel members and micro-concrete reinforcements.
The structural assessment and detailed engineering design is scheduled to be completed this May 2018. Retrofitting works is expected to be completed in September 2018.
